Nigel Farage

Dzisiaj wysłaliśmy list do Nigel'a Farage

Dear Mr. Farage,

We write to you on behalf of Polish Association for Direct Democracy (www.demokracjabezposrednia.pl).

Many of our members have been following you for some time already. Your speeches in EU parliament convey a powerful message that EU needs more not less democracy. Your charisma is amazing, there are so many speeches that send a shiver down our spines. They get beautifully to the point. Like for example, your interview at KingWorldNews radio where you talked that if the people loose their right to voice their opinion and institute change then the only recourse is revolution. Polish people were successful in recent history in instituting change from communism into democracy. We want to do it again as we want to introduce Direct Democracy in Poland. It works very well in Switzerland and there is no reason why it would not work in Poland.

We have not heard any of your views directly on Direct Democracy but your speeches often convey trust in people to make the right decisions for themselves. It is this distrust of citizens in their fellow citizens that is conveyed by main stream media and politicians that we need to address to be able to introduce Direct Democracy. We would like to create a short video that will clearly indicate the need for Direct Democracy and your support for it. If you happen to be discussing related issues on radio/tv please discuss Direct democracy too so we can use this material in our promotional video. If you are aware of any material in which you discuss and support Direct Democracy please let us know. If you have time feel free to record a short 2-3 minute speech in support of Direct Democracy.

Our recent guest on our webpage was Gerald Celente. You can view the video we have created here (http://www.demokracjabezposrednia.pl/node/1200 ). We would be happy to introduce you and your work to our viewers. We not only want to share your optimism that the world can emerge from incoming catastrophes as a safer and better place but we also want to help in making that happen by focusing on peoples' education.

best regards,
Jordan Cibura and Radoslaw Szymanek on behalf of Polish Association for Direct Democracy

Dear Mr Cibura

Thank you for writing to Nigel Farage about "direct democracy", which we have made very much part of UKIP's programme, because we feel that "representative democracy" is not enough to deal with the individual issues, which many people may feel strongly about, but which no political party wishes to put in its manifesto.

Our idea of direct democracy would be very like that, which exists in Switzerland, whereby a sufficiently well-supported petition, to the legislature, automatically generates a binding referendum, on that subject.

This is not a substitute for representative democracy, but it is an, in our view, necessary, adjunct to it.

Our scheme for direct democracy contrasts sharply with pseudo-democratic processes like the EU's "citizens' initiative" and the UK-Government's recently instituted "petition to Parliament", neither of which guarantees that any action will be taken, on any subject, however many signatures any petition may accrue.

Mr Paksas, of the strong Lithuanian party, "Partija Tvarka ir Teisingumas" (TT) - which coöperates with UKIP in the psEUdo-parliament's EFD-Group - has similar ideas, which we would hope to see implemented in his country, when the TT returns to power. I am copying this response to him.

I don't think that Mr Farage does refer to direct democracy in any of the speeches you might find at www.ukipmeps.org and which you can, of course, reproduce and use as you wish; but I'm sure he would be glad to speak on this subject. Perhaps you would care to interview him, on camera, about this, at Strasbourg, sometime (Strasbourg-calendar attached)

Yours sincerely

Next try:

Dear Andrew S. Reed,

Thank you for your reply. At the moment, we have no ability to travel to
Strassbourg to meet in person and conduct a video interview with Mr. Nigel
Farage. However, we would be happy to start by presenting on
our webpage (http://www.demokracjabezposrednia.pl)
the views of Mr. Nigel Farage. We initially choose Mr. Nigel as our special
guest because his efforts in EU parliament resonate with Polish people in Poland as well as in Great Britain. We remember Mr.
Nigel Farage efforts to respect the result of referendums during discussion
about Lisbon
treaty. We deeply appreciate his unwavering support for people right to voice
their opinion and importance of listening to the will of the people.

From your email we can see that we are in agreement when it comes to the
potential model for Direct Democracy. Our association also uses Switzerland as a model for possible Direct
Democracy in Poland.
Some of our members live in Switzerland
and can see first hand the benefits of Direct Democracy.

In order to give Mr. Nigel Farage the ability to present his views we provide
you with few potential questions. However, they should not limit the scope of
the discussion/presentation and should be treated only as guidance.

1. Mr. Nigel Farage, you were fighting for conducting and respecting referendums
during ratification of Lisbon
treaty.  Why was it so important for you and why did we need referendums
in this process?

2. What are the elements of direct democracy that we
should focus on?
What is special about UKIP program in the context of direct
democracy?

3. What are the worrying developments in EU in the context of democratical
processes?

4. Can we ignore the voice of the people and what is likely to happen if
we take away from the people the power to decide about their destiny?

5. What in your view, the Polish people can do to improve democracy in Poland?

Mr. Nigel Farage, thank you for your time. We
appreciate your efforts to protect democracy in Europe.
Your parliamentary speeches are truly exceptional.  Your success in this
fight for better Europe will benefit
everybody.

As soon as we have the possibility to travel to Strassbourg we will be honoured
to accept the invitation and meet Mr. Nigel Farage personally and discuss these
issues in more details, so we can present a video
interview on our website.

Best regards,
Jordan Cibura and Radoslaw Szymanek on behalf of Polish Association for
Direct Democracy.
